The previous system for ordering lenses by opticians had grown over the years and was very complex and costly to maintain. It was programmed on the basis of Java applets, which had to be extensively tested and in some cases adapted every time there was a browser update. In addition, changes to the product portfolio on offer were difficult to adapt, and intuitive and modern user guidance was also lacking.

The teams were trained based on an agile approach, which was new to the Group at the time. This approach to implementation made the company a pioneer and beacon within the Group.
The agile methodology also made it possible to implement an innovative design and a completely new software architecture. The store development was carried out with a mixed agile core team consisting of internal and external developers. The global rollout was carried out country by country until the legacy system was completely replaced.
