Shortly after studying mechanical and industrial engineering, Frank Meyenborg realized that he wanted to work in consulting. In the trainee program at Philips, he was involved in two projects with external consultants. Fascinated by the approach and working methods, he decided to go into consulting and started at Price Waterhouse.

Success structures of international consulting projects

At Price Waterhouse, Frank Meyenborg learned how to operate on the international consulting stage “I still find it fascinating to discuss different ideas in an international team and to bring together different cultures and ways of thinking to achieve a successful result.”

Global project framework and stimulating team culture

The global project framework, the performance, results and team culture of Price Waterhouse at that time still characterizes Frank Meyenborg today. “Price Waterhouse is my consulting DNA.” However, this changed when it was taken over by IBM. “This brought in a completely different culture.”

Success through strategic sales work

Frank Meyenborg therefore moved on. To Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). Here he was responsible for business development and one year later, as Sales Director, he was responsible for business worth up to 30 million euros. “There I learned systematic and strategic sales in the key account environment from the ground up.”

Excursion into the SME sector

After five years at CSC, Frank Meyenborg moved to a medium-sized system house that had a consulting division with 110 employees, which he was responsible for as a member of the Management Board. Over time, however, he realized that the SME sector “ticked” differently to the corporate world. The network, the decision-makers, the decision-making processes and the application portfolio were very different from those in large corporations.

The hardest and most exciting time

During his time in the SME sector, Frank Meyenborg completed an Executive MBA at London Business School and New York Columbia University. “This was the hardest of my life. I studied alongside my position on the Executive Board and was constantly traveling internationally. At the same time, it was also the most exciting time of my life due to the exchange with top-class international managers and lecturers.”

Successful self-employment

After completing his MBA, it was clear to Frank Meyenborg that he wanted to start an entrepreneurial career in his own consulting firm and set up his own consulting business. Since then, he has worked very successfully as a CxO advisor, program manager and project manager for large digital transformation projects for corporate clients.

The next rocket stage

Frank Meyenborg’s next goal is to build up an international boutique consultancy. This benefits from all the experience he has gained so far. “Regardless of whether you want to be successful as a large or small consulting firm, there are always four things you need to be good at: As a consultant, you have to have a deep technical knowledge of the subject matter, you have to manage and implement projects successfully, you have to be able to work out the consultant’s value proposition for the client problem and you have to lead your team or organization effectively.”
